MACHINE BUILDING
In 2000, for the first time in recent years, production in
machine-building industry, which is the main investment industry, expanded by 16.1% as
compared to 1999. Almost all the enterprises of machine-building sub-industries raised
production. The largest increase was registered in car industry (+61.4%), aircraft
building (+51.9%), shipbuilding branch (+42.0%), as well as in electrical industry
(+40.9%).
Starting from the beginning of 2000, growth was traced in
production of such machinery as electric machines, ac motors, power cables, vehicles,
woodworkers, domestic gas-meters, water meters, synthetic diamonds and diamond tools, etc.
In 1999, output of vehicles added 60.3% against 1999, production of electric bridge cranes
went up by 52.1%, whereas control cables production increased by 86%, and that of
woodworkers was up by 21%. As regards cultural and household devices, production of
refrigerators went up by 10.1%, while output of radio receivers grew by 27.7%.
The program for creation of military-transport plane An-70
is so far fulfilled by more than 80%, and the flight test is in process.
Kharkov state aircraft enterprise has launched full-scale
production of plane An-140, which is intended for passenger and passenger-cargo
conveyance.
As compared to 1999, manufacturing of commercial products
in agricultural machine building raised by 5.4% in 2000 with sale turnover adding 6.7%.
Producers of agricultural machinery manufactured 2,003
seeding machines (+63.4% against 1999), 4,264 cultivators (+45.4%), 4,034 tractors
(-19.1%), 323 plant-protecting machines (-14.1%), as well as 82 combine harvesters
(-32.8%), and 1,719 engines (-46.7%). Exports of agricultural machinery accounted for some
15% in total production.
In 2000, ship-builders handed 11 vessels and boats worth a
total of USD 15 mln. to the customers.
In 2000, output by automakers outran the respective 1999
figure by 61.4%, of which 96.7% were sold. Along with that, production facilities of the
companies are only used by 15% on average.
Besides, in 2000, enterprises of electrical industry
launched production of cargo and passenger mainline electrics (10 units of these were
transferred to Ukrzheldortrans), high-powered transformers with 60 Hz. current frequency,
modern electric energy converters, numerous power semiconductor devices, as well as
energy-saving sources of light, which meet high demand on both domestic and external
markets. Expor-oriented products contribute 34% to the total sales turnover.
